Son with Severe ADHD and LD denied DTC how to appeal?

by Jennifer
(Brampton)

My son has very severe ADHD with a few LD with it.

He is in special education and requires medication. I need to know what I am doing wrong on my form and what the Dr. did wrong. He has never filled out the form before as he is just my family Dr.

I attached his assessment from the psychologist a personal letting from me and his special education placement forms.

I know I do not need to describe to any of you who have children with this disability of what it takes day to day in dealing with our ADHD child/ren.

But I feel we have been denied unfairly and I need to figure out why. The denial says they do not believe he is markedly restricted 90% of the time which is a joke.

And they contacted my Dr. which I think may have been our down fall. Anyone know what is the correct wording to use?

I mean I cant even work a normal job because I have to be with my little man for picking up and dropping off at school etc. :(

Even though he is 11 he just is not ready to be on his own or with sitters just yet if ever :( Help!

I too was denied NEW

I’m looking for help too.
I spend a lot of money each month for formal tutoring and it continues daily at home. Then for the rest of evening, I’m working w my daughter to complete homework and other general tasks that she can’t quite take the initiative to do on her own. So, I absolutely spend 90% of my time taking care of her and her needs when she’s not in school.
I understand completely your dilemma. My doc is fairly new to this province and to this country - a great family physician though! The paediatrician we had before I took her to my primary care physician was a joke. I got absolutely zero help!! I asked him to fill out some school forms for me. I’d of paid to have them done. This was the week or two before school started and he at first refused to see me bc my daughter wasnt in the country. Then he threw his arms in the air & said ‘well, if her meds aren’t working anymore, she no longer has ADHD.’ He refused to fill the school papers out bc A) she wasn’t with me & B) since her meds weren’t working effectively he decided she no longer had it. Oh my gosh I went BALLISTIC!!
I was trying to get an IEP set up for her so she can succeed through high school. I had asked for one in elementary school but he didn’t think she needed one. When her records were transferred it was recorded on each visit that there was an IEP in place at school. I was not happy when I saw that!! As for her ADHD, it’s severe and she’ll be the child that won’t be able to stop her meds ever, her ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia etc will never go away. She just needed a medication change. The one she was on had stopped working.
This is a child who wanted to quit school at the end of the 8th grade. I knew if I didn’t get her more help than what she was getting, as soon as she turned 16, she’d be quitting.
So, I’ve got this big list and all her issues and problems and am going back to my GP to see if she can ramp up her findings etc. I hope this works.
I’m on a disability pension and am spending right now 250$ per month for her tutoring and she needs tutoring in another subject. I just keep putting it on my credit card & I’ll be dead before I ever get it paid back!!
So if you find the answer, please let me know.
