Variety Village Summer Camp - tips for parents
by: Anna (The Special Life)

If you're considering registering for the summer camp at Variety Village for several weeks, then you may want to think about purchasing a membership as well.

The weekly camp fee is discounted for members, and you may find that your fee reduction covers a lot of your membership fee, PLUS it gives you access to their facilities on a year round basis.

Membership discounts would apply to programs during the year as well.

If you're a parent of a special needs child, there are two other camps you would also benefit from - March Break Camp and what they call KDD camp - which is camp available for the PDD days when schools are closed.

For working parents of special needs kids, there aren't a lot of options available, and this is definitely one of the better ones.

Our son has taken advantage of summer camps for a couple of years, and he loved it. He especially liked the heated pool and the kid sized disability friendly basketball game.

He felt at ease here, and that means a lot. I can't think of any other integrated program that is as inclusive as this one.

There was only one downside - location. For us, this meant an hour trek across the city. They've been working on satellite locations though, so hopefully this will improve over time.
