Funding for Down Syndrome?

by Jennifer
(Penticton, BC)

My son is Down Syndrome and I receive the Disability tax credit, however a friend of mine receives other funds for her child other than this for her daughter who is autistic.

Is there other benefits that I would be elegible for?

Funding for People with Down Syndrome

Once again, my information is for families in Ontario. Perhaps you could contact Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) at

They are an organization with multiple contacts in BC and should be able to direct you to the resources you need.

Questions about funding. NEW
by: Anonymous

I too am wondering about additional funding for children with special needs...I am a specialized autism educator, and with the recent changes in funding I have researched other education systems and how they are funded based on individual needs. I am beginning to realize that there is no government stipend or initiative to fund other special children's early intervention services. Is this indeed a fact??? Is only autism intervention funded? We certainly believe that ABA practices are beneficial and successful...FOR ALL SPECIAL KIDS...early intervention for childhood challenges benefits all ... but only autistic children are being serviced and indeed championed. This simply rankles...all of our students deserve and benefit from services, but if not equipped with the now dollar ascribed autism diagnosis, they receive nothing but a tax credit. All funding should be needs based, not diagnosis based. If anyone has any other information, I would be very pleased to discuss... my awakening has begun.
Thank you!
Gillian Lambert.
