Yup, it's true! There are all sorts of organizations that offer disability discounts.
Unfortunately, even though many of these organizations serve the public, they don't advertise their discounts. So you have to ask, or hope that someone brings it to your attention.
We happened across this ourselves when we visited the Fantasy Fair in the Woodbine Centre in Toronto.
Although there are no signs posted anywhere, and no indication on the price list, the cashier took one look at my son in the wheelchair, and offered a significant disability discount.
This allows our family to visit the Fantasy Fair more often, which is a good thing, because my sons absolutely love the carousel and train ride.
And since it is so hard to find a place that both kids can enjoy themselves together, we're grateful for the discount.
We'll be doing research as to what discounts are available across Canada, so check back often, or sign up for direct updates using the RSS button at the left.
In the meantime, if you want to do a quick search yourself, for something in particular, try using this search term structure....
disability +discount +" your location or destination "
e.g. disability +discount "CN Tower"
Let us know about your experiences at different venues too. We'll be compiling tips from parents and caregivers.
Sometimes it's knowing the little things that can make a big difference.... Where to park, where are accessible bathrooms, are bathrooms family friendly, is there a place to warm up food - and so on.
Be sure to pass on these important details from your excursions!
